Christian Wright’s Experience

The first IPP developer on the ground in Africa in 1996 as Country Director for the Bujagali Hydro Project, Christian has more than 28 years of experience developing, project financing, and operating in excess of 1GW of IPP projects across Africa.
This has included:
- the formation and running of an IPP company;
- origination of opportunities across East, West, and Southern Africa (see deal sheet);
- the negotiation of contracts with utilities and their governments, driving sector reform, negotiating EPC, operations & maintenance, and related contracts;
- reviewing financial analyses, arranging equity and debt from funds, commercial banks and DFIs; and
- supporting operations through strategy, communications, and restructuring.
Christian has served as Head of Energy & Infrastructure at BCMP, CEO of Elsewedy Energy (Elsewedy Electric’s IPP business), MD of Business Development for East Africa for Globeleq, co-founder of Aldwych International and held senior roles at AES where he developed and brought to financial close multiple gas, wind, solar, and hydro IPP projects in Africa.
Christian holds a Masters in International Relations (University of Cambridge) and BA (hons) in Economics and Politics (Mary Washington University).
